This dish is named roti canai. It is composed of dough containing copious amounts of ghee, flour and water. The entire mixture is kneaded thoroughly, flattened, oiled and folded repeatedly. The method to make roti canai is to twirl it until the dough becomes a very thin sheet and then it is folded into a square shape. The final preparation consists of flattening the dough ball, coating it with oil and then cooking on a flat iron skillet with a lot of oil.

Roti canai usually available at Mamak stalls or restaurants, which can be found almost everywhere in the city. Roti canai is the local Indian bread. Good roti canai is best eaten right off the skillet (when cold it can be chewy and tough). It is crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside and normally served with dhal curry (chickpea gravy), fish curry and chicken curry. Roti canai is normally comes with a cup of "Teh tarikh" .Teh tarik literally means "pulled tea". This is a frothy milk tea which has been skilfully pulled from one mug to another to increase the aroma and increase the cooling process.

There are many type of roti :
This is one of my favorite dish is named Roti Tisu because it is made into a very thin layer and it is melted with sugar which made it taste sweet and crispy. Yummy!!!

This dish is called roti telur (egg bread) it looked almost same as roti canai. The different between this two dishes is one with egg into it which named roti telur and another one is just plain bread.

Otak- otak is one of the origin cuisine of baba and nyonya. The ingridient and the way of making it, is a mixture of chinese and malay style. It is made of blend of fish paste and thick coconut milk (santan) , chilli paste, galangal and herbs. Otak-otak can be slowly barbecued over glowing coals or in a baking tray in the oven.

Recommended Restaurant for otak-otak:

Address: Lot LG-311B, One Utama Shopping Complex, Bandar Utama, 47800 Petaling Jaya

The restaurant serves 16 different types of otak-otak dishes. Besides that, the restaurant also serve a variety of Malaysian food other than otak-otak. The menu consists of Curry Laksa, Assam Laksa, Nasi Lemak with Chicken Rendang, Hainanese Chicken Rice and the list goes on...

Among all those food mentioned above, I strongly recommend steamed Otak-Otak stick which uses the original traditional way of cooking. Another recommendation is the Grilled Otak-Otak Burger which taste something different from the traditional style.

Otak-otak wrapped with pandan leaves ( Otak-otak stick ) taste really superb with its rich aromatic flavours from the pandan leaves and mixed spices.

Grilled Otak-otak Burger served with wedges, baked bean and mixed vegetables. This combination of eastern and western flavours blends very well together giving the the best of both worlds. It taste scrumptious as well as giving a well balance healthy meal.
